The International Colloquium of Language Sciences “Eugeniu Coșeriu”, with a tradition of more than 30 years, is a reference academic event in the following fields: semiotics, linguistics, literature, humanities, philosophy of language, didactics.
Initiated in 1993 at the “Stefan cel Mare” University of Suceava, the CISL has developed steadily, becoming itinerant, since 2001, in the Romanian-speaking areas of Romania (Suceava), the Republic of Moldova (Chisinau) and Ukraine (Chernivtsi). In the same year, the CISL was named after Eugeniu Coșeriu, the greatest Romanian linguist and initiator of this scientific event, unique at international level.
The CISL “Eugeniu Coșeriu” is organized every two years by one of the partner universities: “Stefan cel Mare” University of Suceava, “Yuriy Fedkovych” National University of Chernivtsi and the State University of Moldova.
Now at its 17th edition in 2023, the CISL “Eugeniu Coșeriu” has benefited from the presence of the scholar Eugeniu Coșeriu at four of its scientific meetings, the last one in 2001. Together with the great linguist, there were, as promoters and supporters of the event, prominent personalities in the field of language sciences, including: University Professors Mihail Iordache and Gheorghe Moldoveanu from Suceava, University Professor Dumitru Irimia from Iași, University Professor Silviu Berejan from Chisinau, Academicians Grigore Bostan and Alexandrina Cernov from Chernivtsi, Romanian Academician Marius Sala, Professor Emeritus Anne-Marie Houdebine, France.
The International Colloquium of Language Sciences “Eugeniu Coșeriu” continues to be an important forum for academic debate, promoting excellence in humanistic scientific research and honoring the theoretical and applied legacy of a great linguist, a tireless campaigner for the affirmation of the Romanian language and the Romanian space.
